Where We Live

The Weather

If you are planning to make a trip to Orlando, plan very carefully. If you have not experienced an Orlando Summer, it is not as pleasant as you might think. Temperatures can get in the high 90's F (35C) with high humidity. Fortunately in the Summer, it rains most afternoons for an hour or so which really helps cool things down.

Winters on the other hand are perfect with daytime temperatures anywhere from 70F to 80F (20c to 25c). The evenings can see temperatures close to freezing but that is very rare.

So if you do plan to visit, Spring and Autumn are the best times.

Our home is (in our opinion at least) ideally located. Everyone around here owns horses (we are one of the few exceptions) and there is even a place down the street that keeps Buffalo and Emu's. Although we live in the countryside on 5 Acres of land which is very peaceful, we are only 15 minutes from Orlando airport and 30 to 40 minutes from Cocoa Beach, Downtown Orlando, Disney, Universal Studios and Sea-world. We are about 1 hour from Tampa and 4 hours from Fort Lauderdale. Miami and the Florida keys are further but easily within comfortable driving distance. Finally we are about 20 minutes from the very large Florida Mall.

There is a very large lake just around the corner with white sandy beaches, which is great for swimming, fishing and boating. The locals call it lake Toho because it is very difficult to pronounce the full name.

Finally if you do not like wildlife, then do not come and visit. Our yard is populated by large snakes (not poisonous) and at the right time of year, hundreds of frogs. The wall climbing frogs are really cool. We also have raccoons that spend every night trying to empty the trash cans. Driving around, you will see deer, turtles, tortoises, vultures and eagles. The variety of birds is also quite large. So far we have not found any Alligators in the pool but we do have some mean looking spiders. This one is about 2 inches and took up residence by the swimming pool for a couple of months.
